El Salvador
Ok, sorry you haven't heard from me in a second, but I promise I am alive. I'm in El Salvador now, and I am loving it.
My mission doesn't allow photo albums (I'm sorry), so I'll just send a couple of pictures with my email.
The last week in the MTC went by so fast, filled with goodbyes. We took our final Spanish test (I am not fluent, I can tell you that), and now I know which areas I can improve on (all areas). But I have definitely improved and am excited to continue learning.
The last two nights were really weird. Monday night we stayed up packing and sent off Elder Quezada at midnight, then hit the cama, slept for a couple hours, and sent off Elder Norton at 4:30 am. I'm going to miss them; I couldn't have asked for better comps.
The next day and Wednesday night, we traveled. We slept in the ap's house, drank some bag water, and had our first pupusas.
Thursday we met our comps and got to our areas. Now I'm here.
Anyways, a lot has happened, but I don't really know what to write about. My Spanish is terrible right now, but it's coming along, and I understand more every day. My companions and I are new to the area, so we spend most of our time getting to know the ward.
A member (he's excommunicated but still awesome) had us over for lunch and made some amazing tacos. Afterward, I was practicing teaching a lesson but kept messing up, so he took a turn trying. He testified of the importance of the Plan of Salvation and how it is centered on families. The Spirit was so strong. He is a great guy, and I hope he gets everything figured out in his life.
We slept through an earthquake too.
Sunday was great, and the Sacrament was the highlight of my week. Later in the day, we taught a lesson to a girl named Nicole who is excited about the church, and we're just waiting for approval from her mom to get baptized.
At 2:30 am we got up today to hike Chapparastique. An active volcano in the area. It was beautiful.
Anyways,
The story of John the Baptist has been inspiring to me recently. His mission was preordained and testified before he was even born. His whole purpose was to prepare the way for the Savior and help others to recieve Him. He and I have a similar mission:
Luke 1: 79, "To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."
Love you all. Follow the spirit, and be a light.
